Solid Snake's Oddysee?
Remember in Metal Gear Solid 4 when the player goes back to Shadow Moses where it all began? Reliving the flashbacks and retracing the oh-so-familiar routes; it was nostalgia at the it's deepest! Could we do it all over again? Hideo Kojima certainly seems to want to! He expressed an interest to see the first Metal Gear Solid remade by a third party using the breath-taking Fox engine we witnessed at E3, but who shall take this glorious opportunity?
British developer Just Add Water have sent Kojima-san an open letter expressing a strong desire to take on the project which reads "Experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves, along with having a team built of huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material and the fact that everyone here really, REALLY wants to do it."
Just Add Water certainly has the HD revamp know-how for having remade Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Munch's Oddysee (intentional spelling mistake) and the upcoming Abe's Oddysee and Metal Gear Rising did prove that Hideo Kojima is willing to hand his darlings over to Western developers. Who better to make the game than the true fans themselves? I can definitely think of a few games I'd like to remake!
Ultimately, there's a lot of exciting things coming for Metal Gear Solid fans, and a remake of the PlayStation original would be icing on the cake. It also gives the developers an opportunity to put more emphasis on some of the characters whose legacy has developed since the first installment.
Random Gamer Question: out of all the Metal Gear characters, who do you think would make the best stand alone spinoff title? Obviously, Raiden doesn't count. Psycho Mantis? Otacon? Vamp? Or better yet one of the few characters that survived through all the Metal Gear titles... Johnny Sasaki?
